Our friends at ConstructionDive report on a recent webinar featuring Lars Olsen—Midwest chief for WiredScore, which certifies buildings for connectivity and technologies—where he warned that commercial contractors in the office building sector need to be aware of the latest/greatest trends in connectivity and wi-fi needs from future tenants.

Olsen strongly suggests that a tech expert toward the end of the schematic process to ensure that the tech integration is flawless because one minor miscalculation can create a ripple effect that handicaps said new tech. During the webinar interview with BizCast HQ, Olsen reinforced the 5P approach (Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance) to tech integration explaining post-construction changes and upgrades are usually difficult and cost prohibitive, so proper integration up front requires an expert that is fully conversant in the latest technologies.

According to Olsen, WiredScore provides certification—silver, gold or platinum—for commercial real estate projects based on their building’s technology and connectivity. The certification level indicates to owners and tenants the quality and reliability of the building’s internet service.
