It’s Official: Governor Evers Declares October Careers in Construction Month in Wisconsin

October 1st, 2020 | by NEWCA

At the end of September, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers joined several other governors around the United States by officially declaring October 2020 to be “Careers in Construction Month.”

The goal of these declaration is to draw further attention to the dynamic, exciting and well-paying open jobs in the construction trades. The NEW Construction Alliance is dedicated to growing participation in the construction workforce via several concurrent efforts, not the least of which is improving the industry’s public image.

“We welcome the governor’s effort to draw attention the construction trades,” stated Joe Giganti, executive director of the Alliance. “COVID-19 and the response to it have left many struggling to recover financially, so now may be the perfect time for them to consider a change in their career path. The industry needs strong candidates at every level, and I think those looking to improve would be very excited once they learn about the highly competitive wages, benefits and upward mobility this industry offers its employees.”

The proclamation reads in part:

“WHEREAS; Careers in Construction Month is observed annually to celebrate, support, and increase public awareness of construction craft professionals and the entire construction workforce; and

“WHEREAS; the construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries, employing more than 5 million individuals across the United States, including more than 125,000 Wisconsinites…”

“NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tony Evers, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim October 2020 as CAREERS IN CONSTRUCTION MONTH throughout the State of Wisconsin…”
