Celebrating Excellence in the Building Trades
The Champions of Construction Awards recognize and honor the individuals who are making a lasting impact on the construction industry across Northeast Wisconsin. This annual celebration shines a spotlight on those who lead with integrity, innovate with purpose, and inspire the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
These awards are more than a moment of recognition—they are a movement to elevate the image of construction and showcase the vital role it plays in the economic strength and future of our region. From the job site to the boardroom, from apprentices to industry veterans, the Champions of Construction represent the best of our industry: dedication, craftsmanship, leadership, and community impact.

Eligibility/Criteria |
- Work in the New North 18-county region
- Work for a NEW Construction Alliance investor company
- Nominations are open to all field crafts and construction trades (non-office positions)
Youth Apprenticeship of the Year Award
- Recent spring high school grad or 2nd year youth apprentice starting their senior year who has satisfied minimum requirements for a one year youth apprenticeship
- Exemplifies dedication to trades skillset
- Shows exemplary communication skills
- Expresses a clear interest in pursuing a long-term career in construction
- Maintains a high level of reliability, safety awareness, and teamwork
- Shows eagerness to learn and shows continuous improvement and mastery of technical construction skills
Rising Star Award
- Has worked in the construction trades industry for 5 or less years
- Demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship, technical ability, and rapid skill growth beyond their years of experience
- Actively seeks out training, certifications, or mentorship opportunities to enhance their expertise in the trade
- Shows creativity and resourcefulness in overcoming challenges, improving efficiency, or enhancing job site practices
- Positively contributes to team dynamics
- Consistently displays dedication, dependability, and a commitment to safety and quality on the job site
Excellence in Mentorship Award
- Has worked in the construction trades industry for 6 – 25 years
- Mentored youth or registered apprentices and/or industry peers
- Has a track record of developing successful professionals in the industry
- Inspires individuals to pursue long-term careers in construction
- Effectively communicates complex concepts in an understandable manner
- Advocates for workforce development and apprenticeship programs
- Supports mentees in overcoming challenges, both technical and personal
Craftsman Legacy Award
- Has worked in the construction trades industry for 25+ years
- Demonstrates exceptional skill, expertise, and technical knowledge in their trade, consistently producing high-quality work that exceeds industry standards
- Has devoted a significant portion of their career to the construction industry, leaving a lasting impact on projects, colleagues, and the trade as a whole
- Actively mentors trades people, shares knowledge, and fosters the next generation of construction professionals, helping to sustain and grow the industry
- Upholds the highest standards of safety, ethics, and professionalism
- Demonstrates a lasting impact beyond the job site by actively supporting the construction industry, local community and their employer through advocacy, volunteerism, or participation in industry organizations

Recognition |
Award recipients will be recognized and celebrated at our Annual Meeting in January, where we shine a spotlight on their achievements in front of peers and industry leaders. In addition to the in-person recognition, winners will also be featured in Insight Magazine, and highlighted on the NEW Construction Alliance website and social media channels—ensuring their contributions are seen and celebrated across northeast Wisconsin and beyond.
