C.D. Smith Construction, industry professionals celebrate ‘Women in Construction’ at Marian University
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – An event celebrating opportunities for women in the growing construction industry was held at Marian University on Thursday.
The event, titled ‘Women in Construction 2025’ was sponsored by C.D. Smith Construction and hosted by Marian University’s Construction Management Program with special guest Ana Kraft.
Kraft is an entrepreneur and the founder of Xena Workwear. Xena Workwear, which began in Milwaukee, provides fashionable, steel-toed work boots and other gear for women. Kraft shared her story at the event.
“About 11% of people in construction are women and that number is growing over time because we do need people in trades, with construction engineering backgrounds,” began Kraft. “The goal is to bring in more women into that environment and help grow that number but there are some challenges that women face. We don’t have enough exposure, especially young women because we don’t see enough role models in those spaces.”
The Women in Construction event was aimed at students in high school, technical college, or college, who are interested in the construction industry. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with industry peers, gain insights from diverse perspectives, and be part of the conversation shaping construction’s future.
During the event, a diverse panel of professionals who have made their mark in construction management, engineering, estimating, and design shared their insights into the industry and gave real-world advice to aspiring construction professionals.
